Arezzo lies on an extensive plateau on the edge of the Val di Chiana, at 296 m above sea level. An interesting Medieval town in Tuscany, between Florence and Rome which was founded by the Etruscans (once called Aretium).
The historic center is rich in culture, art and architectural treasures from the Vasari Lodges to the Piero della Francesca frescoes, the Romanesque Pieve, Petrarch, Guido Monaco and Michelangelo. Roman remains can be seen in Archaeological museum in Via Margaritone overlooking the vast space of the Roman Amphitheatre. The historic center of Arezzo in appearance is medieval and remains unspoiled by other buildings from later periods.

"La Giostra del Saracino" takes place the 1st Sunday in June and September. La Giostra is a tournament between where the four regions of the town challenge each other on horseback and ancient spears and costumes. Ancient local traditions are re-lived each year during this ethnical tournament.
The "new town" readily bonds to perfection with the ancient town, welcoming visitors to a sheer abundance of art, architecture, culture and local traditions.

"IL CORSO" the main shopping street, has an array of exciting little shops and many typical little bars and pasticerias.

Saturday morning is market day in Arezzo, where many a bargain can be had.
The famous ANTIQUES FAIR, takes place in the most picturesque parts of the old medieval town center, Piazza San Francesco, Piazza Grande and the Logge Vasari, the first Saturday and Sunday of the month with over 800 antique dealers exhibiting each month.
